Half-day cave explorations take place locally here in the karst topography of the Driftless Region. We explore wild caves and teach the science of spaeology. Essential Skills Outdoor School provides you with professional guides who are familiar with cave access and the environmental issues involved. We will begin with a few group warm ups and team building games followed by a discussion on cave environments and safety protocol. There is a short but strenuous hike to reach the cave entrance which takes about 30 minutes each way. We will be in the cave for approximately 1.5 hours. Plan to spend approximately four hours total on this activity. There are many chambers and passageways to explore and many rock formations to observe inside the cave. We will encounter live bats, tight passageways, shallow pools of water and plenty of mud.
